Dual Enrollment

Reasons to consider dual enrollment opportunities in high school:

  • IT’S PRACTICAL: Students can earn college level credit as they earn credit toward a high school diploma.

  • IT’S AFFORDABLE: Many college level courses are offered at a discount to high school students. Credits can be earned at a fraction of the normal cost.

  • IT’S CHALLENGING: Students have the chance to experience the rigor expected from a college level course.

  • IT’S BROADENING: Students have the opportunity to explore fields of study beyond the classes that are typically available at the high school level.

PMHS participates in the SNHU in the High School program. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors can take college-level courses taught at the high school by PMHS teachers and earn college credits issued by Southern New Hampshire University. These credits are transferable to other colleges. Courses are currently available in the Music, Math, Science, & Social Studies departments and students can earn 3 college credits in each class for $100. See your counselor and/or the Program of Studies for more information.

The Running Start Program offers college-level courses taught at the high school by PMHS faculty. The PMHS Program of Studies indicates which Running Start courses are currently available to students. Students register with the Community College System of NH for a fee (typically $150 - scholarships may be available). Students will receive college credit and an official transcript can be requested upon successful completion of the class.

PMHS has several Advanced Placement classes listed in our Program of Studies. The AP program allows a student to study a subject at the rigor and depth of a college-level course. In May of each year, students who have taken AP courses can sit for the AP exam in their subject area. (There is a fee to take the exam.) Depending on the exam score, a college may award the student college credits and/or may allow the student to place into an upper-level course in a particular department.

The Community College System of NH and Southern New Hampshire University offers online courses to high school students for a nominal fee. They are taught by community college or SNHU professors and typically cost about $150 plus the cost of textbooks and/or online access fees. Credits from these courses may be transferred to the student’s college of choice.

The Early College Program is a dual enrollment option in cooperation with the Community College System of NH. In addition to their classes at PMHS, students can take college courses on the college campus taught by professors.

Credits earned may be applied to a degree at the community college or transferred to another college or university. The cost for the Early College program is typically 50% of the actual tuition. Students pay for their own books and materials as well as lab fees and are also responsible for their own transportation to the college.

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is administered by College Board. Exams are conducted at multiple colleges and allow students to earn credit for what they already know. Depending on the score received on each exam, colleges across the country may award college credit. More information can be found at https://clep.collegeboard.org/
