ThIs year's Unified Basketball team had an undefeated season of 5-0 ! The team consisted of veteran players Jillian Nason, Ben Cormier, Jasmine Emerson, Thomas Sheing, and Kenny Sanborn along with their senior partners Shannon Kelley and Grace Brooks.
This Unified powerhouse competed against teams with 2 or 3 times as many players. The secret behind their success was that Prospect Unified learned how to use their strengths to outplay the teams. Those strengths included Jillian and Ben's almost flawless shooting, both of them scoring between 10 and 20 points per game. Jillian thrilled the crowd in the final game as she made her own 3-pointer. Jasmine was the leader on defense, always hustling. She was also a tremendous asset on the court as she championed Ben selflessly, making sure he was always part of the action.
Thomas and Kenny were a dynamic duo, working together throughout the season to improve their offense, which was evident in the final game as between the two of them they scored 15 points in three pointers. Kenny was also a very strategic and compassionate player, instinctively knowing when to push his teammates and how to guide them to play to their best ability. Thomas worked all season at becoming an aggressive re-bounder and with each game he proved to be more and more of a threat under the boards.
Shannon and Grace, who have been on the team for three years, were the biggest cheerleaders and support system for their teammates as they encouraged, taught, and modeled what a Prospect basketball player should be. This team worked to showcase each other's talents, showed pride and joy in each other's accomplishments, and tried their hardest in each game. They should be commended as a big source of positivity in our school!
